Greek mythology has always fascinated me. I feel the character tropes and traits we learned from the Olympian’s stories constantly present themselves in everyday life and everyday people. Particularly through the romantic and sexual themes. Along with a dreamy, indulgent pop art feel done by layering halftone prints and classic comic style heavy inking techniques, this portrayal of the twins is a love letter to historical representations of queerness.

For me, Apollo has always represented a carefree and unapologetic aspect of queerness. Documented to have both female and male partners, Apollo’s constantly debated sexuality inspires the ambiguity of the peach specifically as a celebration of fluid sexuality and a reminder that labels are not necessary to queer identity.

Artemis on the flip side represents a beautiful and long-lived history of lesbianism and sapphics. Historically recorded to sternly reject any male company other than her own twin brother, I chose the depict Artemis with the grapefruit to parallel her brother’s portrait with a bold symbol of the female form.
